Weed control to date has been done mainly by herbicides. To minimize the negative impact on our environment we must find alternatives. Organic farming has relied on tractor-pulled weeding-machines. Weedmaster embodies a new approach: modern technology allows the use of many small machines as opposed to one big tractor-pulled device.

Weedmaster, a robot powerd by methanol fuel cell, uproots weeds autonomously. Using a digital image recognition system, the robot distinguishes between the plant being cultivated and weed. This makes precise weeding possible, both beside the rows and between the plants in a row. Because of its compact size and low weight, the robot can be used in any weather. To increase capacity for a large acreage, the farmer can use a network of serveral interacting robots.

Weedmaster's efficiency renders these robots profitable not only for organic farming: the reduction of manhours and costs for herbicides will lead many conventional farms to switch to Weedmaster.

Thanks to modern technology, Weedmaster offers economy and ecology.
